This book provides the basic understanding of different types of roof and introduces the importance of roof structures, especially in building construction and shows examples of roof constructed today. The main focus of this book discusses and exposes students to the roofing system and to be able to define and identify different types of roof namely flat and pitched roofs. The students should then be able to analyse forces that act on these roof. In the last part of this book, students should be able to explain the function of roof as to protect buildings from the effects of weather such as rain and heat. Apart from providing simple basic principles, the book also includes activities and solutions to roof problems to illustrate various concepts. Assessment questions sited at the end of the book will help and assist students to test their understanding on the subject matter.
