A JOURNEY THROUGH PROSE AND POETRY (KL)

Zurinah Hassan is the first Malaysian female writer to be conferred the title National Laureate. She received the S.E.A. Write Award in 2004 and the Sunthorn Phu Award (Asean Poetry Prize) in 2013. Zurinah wrote in various genres and has produced collections of poems, short stories, a novel, literary studies and memoirs. Her works especially poetry have been translated into several languages, including English, Spanish, Russian, Japanese and French.

In this book Zurinah traces her involvement in the world of literature and the creative processes in the production of her works, especially poems and short stories. Previously she had written two books on her artistic undertakings. However this book highlights the cultural background and social challenges faced by women writers in projecting their voices. The book touched on the early development of modern Malay literature and the emergence of Malaysian women writers and their struggles in pursuing their ambition.
